Uganda’s National Swimming Team opened their title defense with an impressive start at the 10th Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Championships in Kasarani, Nairobi, on Thursday, 16th October.

The four-day event, featuring nine nations from Eastern Africa, showcases the region’s top swimming talent.

Several Ugandan swimmers made their mark on day one.

Standouts included Ssali Mackayla, Suubi Peyton, Zara Mbanga, Kylie Kaweesa, Ampaire Namanya, Kristian Bwisho, and Nisha Pearl, all claiming medals in their events.

Kylie Kaweesa’s 50-meter breaststroke was a highlight. Competing in a long course pool for the first time, she finished in 30 seconds, calling the race “highly competitive but exhilarating.”

Uganda Olympic Committee President Dr. Donald Rukare praised the hosts for their excellent organization and hospitality, noting that Kenya had set a high standard for the tournament.

With three more days to go, Uganda remains focused on securing a fourth consecutive Zone 3 title, buoyed by a strong start.
