Uganda’s U18 national football team faces a crucial do-or-die encounter against Zanzibar in the ongoing CECAFA U18 Boys Championship, scheduled for Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 2PM in Kakamega, Kenya.

The Ugandan youngsters enter the match following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Tanzania in their opening group stage fixture. Despite showcasing promising moments of play, Uganda fell short of securing a favorable result against Tanzania.

Seeking redemption and a path to qualification, Uganda’s head coach, Morley Byekwaso, has urged his players to approach the match with unwavering determination and unwavering motivation.

“In the previous game against Tanzania, my players gave their all,” remarked Byekwaso.

“In fact, we had the game in our hands until the rain disrupted the pitch and made it unplayable. We were unable to execute our playing style as a result.”

“However, Zanzibar and Tanzania employ a similar style, and they will likely defend deep and maintain a compact formation. They have three points already, so they will be cautious.”

“We must be innovative and look for goal-scoring opportunities. We can achieve it if we have faith in ourselves. The team has the confidence and belief to perform at their best.”

Byekwaso is expected to make strategic changes to the starting lineup, with attacking midfielder Travis Mutyaba and defender Stephen Namaisi expected to join the starting eleven.

Mutyaba, with his experience from the senior team, believes this is a do-or-die encounter for Uganda and is prepared to meet the challenge head-on.

“Based on our preparations, we are ready to go,” Mutyaba asserted. “We must win. With my experience from the senior team, I am ready to live up to the task. This is our opportunity, and we need to grab it.”

Uganda finds itself in Group B alongside Tanzania, South Sudan, and Zanzibar. Tanzania will face South Sudan in an early kickoff in another group match.

This tournament serves as a valuable platform for the players to prepare for the upcoming AFCON U20 Qualifiers, scheduled for next year.tunesharemore_vertadd_photo_alternate
