After savouring a fun-filled and a traditional opening ceremony held at Lady Andal School on Sunday, Uganda got to business on Monday at the Street Child World Cup (SCWC) in India.

Uganda who are making their first appearance at this event were pitted in Group B alongside England, Nepal, Mexico, Zimbabwe and Rwanda, and they were handed their fellow East Africans as their first opponents.

In their first ever game in this five Overs of four balls competition, Uganda came out victors, beating Rwanda by 6 wickets.

Uganda restricted their opponent to 22 runs, and their chase was made easier by the Rwandese bowlers.

The Rwandese bowled 10 extras and despite Malisa Ariokot and Jonathan Nyiiro each coming out with only six runs (maximums each), the extras were just enough to win Uganda the game in the 1.2 Overs.

The SCCWC is a mixed tournament of three boys and three girls!

Emmanuel Isaneez, the man in charge of the team in Indian played Nyiiro, Naome Amongin, Agnes Nakakande, Gerald Olipa, Ali Balidawa and Ariokot ahead of Aziz Tandia and Lorna Anyait.

The other Group B games saw both Nepal and Zimbabwe win their respective games.

Nepal beat Mexico by 5 wickets while England lost to Zimbabwe by the same number of wickets.

The day’s last game in the group saw Rwanda lose again, this time by 5 wickets to Nepal who are now the Group leaders.

The teams will take a one day rest and will return to action on Wednesday. Uganda will face Mexico that day.
