Former champions Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi made a strong statement in the 2024/25 University Football League, defeating Muni University 2-0 in their opening match.

Defender Joseph Kayondo and midfielder Akbal Ssentongo scored the goals for Nkozi. Kayondo netted a direct free-kick in the 50th minute, while Ssentongo capitalized on a defensive error by Muni’s Iddi Abdu to double Nkozi’s lead late in the game.

With the victory, the 2017 and 2022 winners now lead Group E, which also includes International University of East Africa (IUEA) and the University of Kisubi (UNIK).
