Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) Nkozi began their University Football League (UFL) title defense with a dominant 3-1 victory over Bugema University in a thrilling encounter.
The reigning champions took the lead through Ivan Agamire‘s 36th-minute strike, and Akbar Ssentongo added a brace in the second half to seal the victory.
Denis Kimuli scored a late penalty consolation goal for Bugema.

“We are happy to start the season with a win. We wanted to win, and the boys stuck to our game plan.”
“We told them to focus on winning the game rather than trying to impress the fans. As defending champions, we know that winning games is crucial to retaining the trophy,” said Kisuze.

“We had a tough start to the season, losing 3-1 to the defending champions. They used their home advantage to win the game.”
“We have noticed our mistakes and we’re going to revise them and improve to win the coming games.” stated Yiga.
The UFL action continues on Wednesday as St. Lawrence University, last season’s runners-up, host Nkumba University at Kavule Stadium.
