The Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) and National Council of Sports (NCS) appointed me as the welfare & safeguarding officer for team Uganda at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

This appointment underscores the UOC and NCS’s commitment to uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and athlete welfare, as outlined by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and rightly gave it to me a certified IOC safeguarding officer.

In my role, I serve as the primary point of contact for Team Uganda athletes through providing support and guidance on a range of issues including mental health, safe sport practices, and competition manipulation especially through leaking information and betting.

Athletes have been encouraged to reach out to me with any concerns or questions they may have throughout their time in Paris.

In addition to my support, team Uganda athletes like any others in the village have access to the comprehensive resources offered by the Halle Maxwell facility located within the Olympic Village.

The Halle Maxwell facility is a dedicated space for athletes to focus on their mental and physical well-being, with services including relaxation and recovery programs, mental preparation workshops, and overall support.

It should be remembered that Uganda paint manufacturing giants, Kansai Plascon, through their “Twaake” (meaning “go and shine”) campaign, gave the Ugandan contingent of 25 athletes a financial boost ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
