The Uganda Queen Cranes secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Namibia in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers at the FUFA Stadium, Kadiba on September 19. The win, highlighted by an outstanding performance from Sumaya Nalumu, gives Uganda a strong advantage going into the second leg.
After a goalless and somewhat sluggish first half, the Uganda women’s football team found their rhythm. Sylvia Kabene broke the deadlock early in the second half, followed by a powerful header from defender Barbara Anomo. Substitute Mary Kantono sealed the victory with a goal in the final minutes.
The first half saw several missed opportunities from players like Kabene, Patricia Nayiga, and Dorine Aujat. However, Agnes Nabukenya and Sumaya Nalumu were particularly lively, with Nalumu showcasing her captivating skills throughout the game.
The turning point came when coach Sheryl Botes introduced Peace Muduwa, who immediately assisted Kabene’s opening goal. Later, Nalumu delivered a brilliant bouncing cross in the 83rd minute, which Anomo headed in for the second goal.
With the 3-0 lead, the Uganda Queen Cranes are in a strong position for the return match against Namibia on Monday, September 22, at the same venue, as they continue their World Cup qualifying journey.
