Despite securing back-to-back victories, Uganda Rhinos coach Hamuza Lutalo remains grounded, emphasizing the need for continuous improvement rather than solely focusing on results.
Following Uganda’s 3-0 triumph over South Sudan in the CECAFA U-15 Championship at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru in Buikwe district, Lutalo cautioned against complacency, highlighting the importance of nurturing young talent.
“We have a young squad, so mistakes are inevitable. We must address these errors consistently. Our goal isn’t just winning; we’re building a team for the future,” Lutalo remarked.
He acknowledged South Sudan’s spirited performance, particularly in the first half.
“South Sudan is a strong team that posed a significant challenge. However, it’s understandable given that some of their players reside and study in Uganda, giving them familiarity with our players,” Lutalo added.
Frank Ssekanjako, Enock Bagenda, and Abdulshakur Babi each scored for Uganda.
Uganda leads Group A with six points from two games, followed by Ethiopia with four points. South Sudan is third with one point, while Djibouti remains at the bottom with no points.
The Uganda Rhinos will conclude the group stage on Friday with a match against Ethiopia. Ethiopia secured an 8-1 victory over Djibouti in the other Group A fixture.
Lutalo’s cautious approach reflects Uganda’s desire to not only win the tournament but also develop a team capable of sustained success in the future.
