Uganda’s Rhinos continued their winning streak in the ongoing CECAFA U15 Championship, defeating Ethiopia 4-0 in their final group stage match on Friday at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru, Buikwe District.
Owen Mukisa scored a brace, with Richard Okello and Enock Bagenda adding the other goals for the Rhinos. Bagenda now has five goals in the tournament.
Coach Hamuza Lutalo praised his players’ character after the game.
“From the first minute, we showed that we were in charge,” Lutalo said.
“This is what we expect from the boys. They managed to win all their games while putting up a good performance. We hope to do the same in the knockout stage. The good thing is that we have not conceded and we have scored a number of goals.”
Uganda topped Group A with nine points from three games, followed by South Sudan and Ethiopia with four points each. Djibouti finished bottom of the group with no points.
In the other Group A match, South Sudan thrashed Djibouti 12-0.
The hosts and South Sudan, who had a better goal difference, qualified for the semifinals. Uganda will now face Zanzibar or Tanzania in the last four.
The two teams that qualified for the semifinals from Group B are scheduled to face off on Saturday to determine the group winner.
