KOBs Rugby Club finally got it right against Heathens, using discipline and smart decision making to secure a convincing 37-15 win in the Uganda Rugby Premiership at Legends Grounds on Saturday.

For a long time, KOBs had struggled against their rivals, often turning down easy points in favour of risky lineouts and scrums.

This time, they kept it simple and it paid off. Rasul Abiriga was flawless from the boot, punishing every Heathens mistake.

Heathens started well, with Marvin Asaba kicking an early penalty. Abiriga quickly responded to level the score, and from there KOBs settled into their rhythm.

A strong attacking move involving Ian Munyani and Karim Arinaitwe pushed play deep into Heathens territory, allowing Abiriga to slot another conversion for the lead. He added one more penalty before halftime, giving KOBs a comfortable cushion.

Heathens fought back just before the break. Good passing play ended with Denis Etwau setting up Alphonse Openy for a try, keeping the visitors in the game.

After halftime, KOBs took full control. Joseph Aredo crossed for a try early in the second half, with Abiriga converting to stretch the lead. The kicker remained reliable, adding another penalty before Benjamin Muwanguzi scored to widen the gap further.

Mike Otto later added another try, and Abiriga capped his perfect day with the conversion to push the score to 37-8.

Heathens managed a late consolation through David Wako, converted by Joseph Oyet, but the result was already decided.

Joseph Aredo was named man of the match for his strong performance.

Elsewhere, the Uganda Rugby Premiership produced a lively round with Mongers beating Hippos 45-13 and Walukuba overcoming Kakira 24-18.

Buffaloes cruised past Warriors 50-5, while Impis handled Rhinos 23-8. Pirates closed the day with a 29-19 win over Victoria Sharks.

The win lifts KOBs to 26 points, keeping them close to leaders Black Pirates and Buffaloes, who both sit on 28.
