Uganda Rugby Premiership: Pirates hand Mongers maiden season loss

Black Pirates Rugby Club returned to the top of the Uganda Rugby Premiership after a dominant 61–23 victory over Entebbe Mongers Rugby Club on Saturday, handing the visitors their first defeat of the 2026 season.

Playing at Kings Park Arena, Pirates delivered an attacking masterclass to delight their home supporters. 

The Sea Robbers controlled the game from the start, using their power and pace to keep Mongers under pressure for long spells.

Pirates repeatedly broke through the visitors’ defence, running in several tries as they built a comfortable lead. 

Mongers showed brief moments of resistance but struggled to match the hosts’ intensity throughout the contest.

By the final whistle, Pirates had sealed a convincing 61–23 win, ending Mongers’ unbeaten run and strengthening their position in the title race.

The result lifts Pirates back to the top of the standings with 19 points, level with Victoria Sharks Rugby Club, while Buffaloes Rugby Club sit third.

Elsewhere, KOBs Rugby Club defeated the in-form Impis Rugby Club at the Graveyard. Buffaloes edged rivals Heathens Rugby Club 12–7 in the Kyadondo derby at Kyadondo Rugby Club.

In Kiira, Hippos Rugby Club beat Warriors Rugby Club 20–7, while Victoria Sharks Rugby Club extended Kakira Rugby Club’s losing streak with a 37–8 victory in Kyambogo. Walukuba Rugby Club also edged Rhinos Rugby Club in another closely contested match.
