Uganda Rugby Union unveils new Age-Grade management teams

The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has unveiled new management, coaching, and support staff for its age-grade national teams, a strong signal of renewed commitment to developing the next generation of rugby stars.

Announced on Tuesday, November 5, 2025, the appointments cover the Under-17, Schools Select, and Under-20 programs for both boys and girls. 

The Union commended the selected officials for their dedication and leadership, expressing confidence that their combined experience will strengthen Uganda’s player development pathway from schools to the senior national sides.

For the U17 Boys, Solomon Aryampa will serve as Team Manager, working with Head Coach Peter Ochol. 

They’ll be supported by Brian Wambedde (Strength & Conditioning), Assy Ainemigisha (Physiotherapist), and Dr. Rajab Abubakar Musa (Team Doctor).

On the girls’ side, Brendah Nansubuga takes on the Team Manager role, with Traton Nyangoma as Head Coach. 

The backroom team includes Abel Ssozi (Strength & Conditioning), Vivian Namugenyi (Physiotherapist), and Dr. Catherine Amanya (Team Doctor).

The Schools Select Boys Team, the bridge between school rugby and national duty, will be managed by Dennis Etuket, with Brian Makalama as Head Coach. 

Asa Muhanguzi (Forwards Coach) and Emmanuel Walakira (Backs Coach) complete the technical bench, joined by Jerome Buyongo (Strength & Conditioning), Solomon Ogwal (Physiotherapist), and Dr. Sidwell Kyeunye (Team Doctor).

For the U20 Men, Etuket continues as Team Manager under Head Coach Martial Tchumkam. 

He’ll be assisted by Alfred Karekaho (Backs Coach) and Alex Mubiru (Forwards Coach), with Simon Wakabi (Strength & Conditioning), Eugenia Katuutu (Physiotherapist), and Dr. Alex Oboth (Team Doctor).

The U20 Women’s Team will be managed by Sharon Oyenboth, with Edmond Quaresma as Head Coach. 

Harriet Kayonjo (Assistant Coach & Backs), Faragi Odugo (Strength & Conditioning), Stella Nakayenga (Physiotherapist), and Dr. Leonard Were (Team Doctor) complete the setup.

The appointments reflect URU’s focus on building a solid foundation for youth rugby through structured mentorship, coaching, and medical support. 

By investing in capable hands across all levels, the Union aims to ensure Uganda remains competitive on both the continental and global stages.
