Series: Uganda W lead 3–0

Uganda’s Victoria Pearls continued their brilliant run in the Victoria Series 2025, sealing their third straight win with an 18 run victory over Canada on Thursday afternoon at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

The triumph came a day after both teams paused competition to celebrate Women’s Cricket Week with students from Gayaza High School, a refreshing break before returning to action.

For the first time in the series, Canada won the toss and chose to field, putting Uganda in to bat, a rare scenario for the hosts.

Early wickets fell quickly, but the Pearls steadied themselves to post 100 for 6 in 20 overs.

Captain Janet Mbabazi (20) anchored the innings after Esther Iloku’s early dismissal for a duck. Captain Kevin Awino added 21 before falling to Indomatie Goordial, while Immaculate Nakisuuyi made 12.

Stephanie Nampiina provided the late spark with a composed unbeaten 24 off 18 balls, striking two fours and a six to lift Uganda to a defendable total. Proscovia Alako supported with 17 off 21.

Canada’s bowlers kept the pressure on, with Terisha Lavia (2/10) and Vandana Mahajan (2/12) shining in the middle overs.

Canada Women celebrating a wicket.

Canada’s chase never got going as Uganda’s pace ace Kevin Amuge continued her outstanding form.

She ripped through the top order, taking three wickets for just seven runs, two coming in the first over and leaving Canada struggling at 11 for 4 inside five overs.

Rita Musamali then dismissed key batters Amarpal Kaur (28) and Vandana Mahajan (17), bowling straight to the stumps and tightening Uganda’s grip.

Consylate Aweko (1/11) and debutant Sarah Tino kept things tidy as Canada were bowled out for 82 in 18.3 overs.

Only Kaur and Mahajan offered resistance, but their efforts weren’t enough to bridge the gap.

The win gives Uganda an unassailable 3–0 lead and win in the five-match series, with eyes on their dominance and allowing the coaches to test new players like bowler Teddy Oyella, batter Naomi Mbwali and Wicket keeper – bat Jimia Muhammad in the remaining games.

Thursday’s match also marked Sarah Tino’s first game in series after making her debut in the Kwibuka Tournament in June, further highlighting Uganda’s growing depth and confidence.

The two teams meet again on Friday, October 24, for the fourth match, with Uganda chasing a clean sweep and Canada aiming to restore pride.

Uganda is using the Series as preparation ahead of the ICC Women’s Emerging Trophy in Thailand next month.
