The Uganda Rugby Union, through her MOU with the Blue Bulls Rugby Union from South Africa, is sending sevens players to their South African counterparts for a 3-month high-performance camp.

“The Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two Unions will herald a partnership geared towards high-performance, upskilling of coaches and players and allow Ugandan Rugby to learn from one of the best Unions in the world known for developing and producing some of the best talent in South African Rugby and the world,” reads a brief from the National Council of Sports.

The Vodacom (Blue) Bulls are the most successful South African team, and the only South African team to win a Super Rugby title.

They won the Super 14 in 2007, 2009 and 2010, placing them among the most successful teams in Super Rugby history with three titles. They were the most successful team of the Super 14 era (2006–10), winning three out of the five titles.

They have been a hub of producing excellent rugby talent, revered across the rugby universe: Kurt Lee Arednse, Canan Moodie, Victor Matfield, Lood de Jager, Morne Steyn, etc.

Seven players from the extended Uganda Rugby Cranes XV team have been chosen for the high-performance camp in Pretoria in conjunction with Harlequins Rugby Club, a Blue Bulls Rugby Union member.

The seven players are Santos Senteza, Ivan Kabagambe, Faragi Odugo, Eliphaz Emong, Byron Oketayot, Sydney Gongodyo, and Conrad Wanyama.

The camp will last three months and they will be joined by the Rugby Cranes XVs team as final preparations for the Rugby Africa Cup in July 2024.
