Uganda will reach another sporting milestone in 2026 when the national women’s 3×3 basketball team makes its debut at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The announcement, confirmed on Tuesday, places Uganda among 12 nations selected for the expanded women’s 3×3 basketball competition at Glasgow 2026.

It marks a major step forward for Ugandan basketball and reflects growing confidence in the country’s ability to compete on the international stage.

3×3 basketball returns to the Commonwealth Games after its successful debut at Birmingham 2022.

Since then, the fast paced format has continued to grow in popularity, prompting organisers to expand the competition from eight teams per gender to 12.

Uganda will face a challenging field that includes Australia, Jamaica, New Zealand and hosts Scotland, alongside Kenya, Fiji, Singapore, Papua New Guinea, Tonga and the Cayman Islands.

For the Gazelles, the tournament offers a chance to test themselves against established programmes while announcing their arrival on the global 3×3 scene.

Played on a half court with three players per side, 3×3 basketball is built on speed, skill and intensity. Games last 10 minutes or end when a team reaches 21 points, with a 12 second shot clock keeping the action sharp and relentless.

The competition will take place at Glasgow’s SEC Centre from 24 to 29 July 2026.
