A total of 75 swimmers were flagged off this afternoon en route Bujumbura, Burundi for the 2024 Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Championship.
The ceremony held at Elite Gym, Ntinda had two categories namely; age group athletes, and masters who will be out to defend the title.
Uganda emerged the winner of the eighth Africa Aquatics Zone 3 championship in Kigali, Rwanda last year, the first on foreign land.
Powered by Kansai Plascon, Uganda now has three titles having won it in 2015 and 2021 and they are ready to shine (read Twaake) brightest.
The swimmers will dive into the water on the 22nd of November and the medal ceremony will be held the 24th of November on the closing day.
A total of 15 countries will be eyeing to dethrone Uganda who are optimistic to fly back to Entebbe International Airport with the overall title.
“We have prepared well and the number of swimmers is good. This is definitely going to help us retain our title,” Coach Ezra Kalari told Nnalubaale Sports.
In Kigali, Rwanda last year, there were personal best times from nearly all of Uganda’s 40 swimmers. Now with 35 more athletes, the team is ready to paint Bujumbura with the black, yellow and red flag.
