Top Uganda squash personality Michael Reymond Kawooya graduated with a Sports Administration diploma from the Uganda Olympic Committee.

Kawooya, who also holds a level coach license from World Squash while still pursuing his professional playing career, was among the 44 graduates who overcame the six-month Multipurpose Sports Administration and Advanced Sports Management diploma course on February 12.

Program director for the course, George Wagogo, called upon the graduates to apply what they have learned, “Since 2013, we have seen a significant growth, especially in women’s enrollment, supporting the IOC mission to enhance women’s participation in sports governance, now applying what they have learned to create a positive impact in communities. Success is not just about medals, but it is about the integrity and the leadership you bring to your organization.”

Despite being one of the top squash players to ever grace the game in Uganda, he is also growing first as a top Administrator, continuing with his affiliation at Kampala Club.

In the space of one year, Kawooya completed a three-day Advanced Sports Course also organized by the Uganda Olympic Committee.

Having started as a swimmer, he rolled into squash in 2000 and went on to represent Uganda at the Commonwealth Games four times: in New Delhi 2010, Glasgow 2014, Gold Coast 2018, and Birmingham 2022.

As a coach, the 42-year-old went on to guide the Uganda Women’s team to a bronze in 2024 at the All Africa Senior Championship in Windhoek, Namibia, with the performance remaining his best as a coach.
