Uganda Table Tennis Association president Robert Jjagwe has confirmed that the Association will no longer import point counters also known as scoreboards as they will now be sourced locally.
Like for many sports disciplines in the country, the equipment for table tennis has always been imported, but this is going to change especially with regards to the score boards.
Uganda may not have the technology required to make such equipment, but the urge to have durable, large and less expensive point counters prompted the president to think outside the box.

In his own words, Jjagwe said he wanted ‘to have the ability to make them as big as I want’ even though such are not available in international market.
After what he called a discussion with his friend about the same, Jjagwe has confirmed the development.
“We are very glad and happy to debut point counters made in Uganda that have very good durability, a large size, made to good satisfaction and perfection,” Jagwe said.

“The idea that we have to import each and everything needs to be looked at again if we are to develop the table tennis sport. Somethings can be made locally in our countries. And I am happy ITTF has some plans to promote this.”
“The table tennis sport cannot grow if each and everything in Africa comes from outside Africa.”
