The Ugandan government has partnered with Summa, a Turkish construction company, to build a state-of-the-art 15,000-seater multipurpose indoor sports complex at Lugogo in Kampala.

The partnership was confirmed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during a meeting with the Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, officials from Summa Construction Company, and National Council of Sports officials.

The President pledged the government’s support for the project, which is expected to be completed on time.

Sources from the government revealed that the facility will also have a small indoor sports arena with a seating capacity of 3,000 people, a 25m eight-lane swimming pool, a standard pitch, and an athlete hostel with a capacity of 60 people.

It will also have 120 accommodation rooms, a showroom, shopping center, and a fitness gym, among other amenities.

The facility is expected to meet international standards, which the current indoor facility at Lugogo does not. This has made it difficult for Uganda to host international sporting events.

Summa Construction Company has a proven track record of success, having constructed similar projects in other countries, such as Rwanda.

The other indoor sports facility in Uganda is at Makerere University, which was built in preparation for the FISU World University Netball Championships in 2018.

Onc the 15,000-seater sports complex at Lugogo is completed, it is expected to be one of the best in the region.
