Uganda to face Reunion in All Africa Senior Badminton Championships opener

The Uganda national badminton team landed safely in Douala, Cameroon, on Saturday for the 2025 All Africa Senior Badminton Championships.

With Gladys Mbabazi joining the rest of the team, they had their last training session yesterday evening ahead of their opener this afternoon.

Group C of the mixed-team event gets underway with Uganda taking on Reunion, a French Island territory between Madagascar and Mauritius, before facing South Africa.

The Ugandan team has eight players; four women, and four men with Head Coach Ivan Karimunda optimistic about a brilliant start to the championships.

The championships will run until the 16th of this month, with a target of improving on their success in the last edition. In the 2023 edition held in South Africa, Fadilah won a gold medal for Uganda.

Team members include:

  • Women: Shamika Fadilah Mohammed Rafi, Husina Kobugabe, Gladys Mbabazi, and Tracy Naluwooza
  • Men: Augustus Owiny, Lubega Muzafaru, Amos Muyanja, and Kenneth Mwambu
