The Women National Team the Crested Cranes will host Rwanda in the 1st leg of the 2024 Olympic Women’s qualifier in the first round stage at Kigali Pele Stadium, Rwanda.
This is due to unavailability of CAF standard stadiums in Uganda. The FUFA communications director Ahmed Hussein clarified on this;
‘With the unavailability of CAF standard stadiums for hosting matches of this magnitude, our option is to implore using venues outside the country until the Mandela National stadium is completed.’ Hussein clarified
He also cleared air on the unavailability of St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende.
‘St. Mary’s stadium Kitende is not available for use as it is undergoing renovation works.’ Hussein concluded.
FUFA had already received confirmation from the Federation of Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) of the availability of the Kigali Pele Stadium.
Uganda will have an international friendly game against Tanzania this Friday on 7th July 2023 before facing Rwanda on 12th July 2023.
The second leg will be played a week later in Huye, Rwanda.
The winner on aggregate between Uganda and Rwanda will face Cameroon in the next qualifying stage.
