Uganda is excited to announce that it will host the Africa Boxing Union (ABU) Convention for the third time. This prestigious event will take place from August 18th to 23rd, 2024, and is expected to boost tourism and economic growth in the country.

The five-day event which was confirmed by the Africa Professional Boxing Body (APBB) will feature a range of activities, including seminars for ring officials, agents, and promoters. The climax of the convention will be a series of professional boxing bouts, highlighting the talent of Ugandan boxers on the world stage.

At the launch held at Hotel Africa on Thursday 1 August 2024, Uganda Professional Boxing Commission (UPBC) president Salim Uhuru Nsubuga, also the Kampala central Mayor, could not hide his excitement about the opportunities.

Uganda has a strong history of hosting successful ABU conventions. The previous events have contributed significantly to the country’s economy through increased tourism, hospitality, and business activities. The upcoming convention is expected to build on this success.

During the the two-day promoters and agents seminar, which will run from 20th to 22nd, World Boxing Council (WBC) and ABU will provide technical facilitators to handle technical issues in the area of Agents and promoters’ seminar and the attendees will pay 50 dollars and 75 dollars respectively.

“The fights following the seminar will provide a platform where our boxers have a chance to write their names on the big stage. The fights will be for WBC titles, the highest rank in Boxing” UPBC general secretary Maureen Mulangira also told the press

Exciting Boxing Matches Announced

The fights are scheduled to begin on July 23rd and the weigh-ins shall come a day before on 22nd. About 7 bouts will be on card lined by Nara Promotions.

Boxer John Sserunjoji will faceoff Egyptian Ahmed Boloshy in Middle weight WBC sanctioned fight while other Ugandans like Isaac Zebra Ssenyange, Joshua Nyanzi and other will also have fights.

Previously Uganda has managed to win the ABU title through several stars including; Badru Lusambya, Joy Vegas Lubega, Abdul Tebazaalwa, Davis Lusimbo, Mike Kizza, Edward Kakembo, Justin Jjuuko, Faruk Dduku, Machoman Kiwanuka, Catherine Nanziri and Latib Muwonge.

There shall also be a regional Super Welterweight title contest for East and Central Africa between Uganda’s National champion Isaac Zebra Ssenyange Jr. and an opponent yet to be identified.

On the same day, Joshua Nyanzi (Spyder) will battle Power Jjunju in a welterweight bout.
