The Uganda U16 Women’s National Team sets their sights on their first victory as they face Wales in their second Group B match of the UEFA U16 Women’s Tournament on Saturday, April 13th at 4:00 PM (EAT).
The match, held at the Hasan Dogan National Teams Camp and Training Facilities in Istanbul, Turkey, presents a crucial opportunity for Uganda to bounce back from a heavy 7-0 defeat to Paraguay in their opening game.
Their opponents, Wales, also lost their first match, falling 4-1against China. Coach Charles Ayiekoh and his team will have a big task to get positive results especially after the humiliating defeat on the opening day.
Despite the opening loss, Coach Ayiekoh remains confident in his team’s ability to perform. “The Paraguay result wasn’t a true reflection of our capabilities,” he said in a pre-match press conference. “We created chances and played well, but struggled to convert them.”
Coach Ayiekoh emphasized his team’s focus during training: “We’ve been working hard on finishing and defensive strategies to ensure a competitive match against Wales.”
“After acclimatizing to the environment for the past four days, the girls are highly motivated and determined to achieve positive results. We’re here to compete, not just participate,” he concluded.
The UEFA U16 Women’s Tournament, which began on April 9th, will conclude on April 19th. This international competition provides a valuable platform for Uganda’s young footballers to gain experience and showcase their talent on the world stage.
