The Uganda U17 Girls rugby team claimed bronze at the 2025 Safari 7s Age Grade Competition after a spirited run that highlighted their growing skill and determination.
The age-grade tournament kicked off the prestigious Safari 7s on Thursday at Ngong Racecourse, featuring both Under-17 girls teams from across Kenya’s regions Nairobi, Eastern, Coast, Western, Nyanza, Rift Valley, Central and International Schools, alongside the visiting Ugandan side.
Placed in Pool B with Coast and Central, Uganda advanced from the group stages and dominated Nyanza 26–5 in the quarterfinals.
A hard-fought semifinal against Central ended 14–0 in favor of the hosts, but the young Cranes bounced back to edge Eastern 17–12 in the third-place playoff at Nyayo Stadium.
The bronze finish underlined Uganda’s rising stature in regional girls’ rugby and provided a timely boost as they prepare for the African Youth Games in December in Angola.
