The Uganda U20 Women’s Football National Team, the Queen Cranes, are in action tonight at 11PM (EAT) against hosts Ghana in the last game of group A at Cape Coast Stadium.
Uganda need a point against already qualified Ghana to secure a semifinal place however, a loss for Uganda opens the door for Tanzania to advance, provided they win their own match against Ethiopia.
In the last games, Uganda beat Ethiopia 2-0 thanks to Caherine Nagadya and Docus Lwalisa‘s goals while Ghana came from behind to beat Tanzania 2-1.
Playing earlier at 8PM (EAT), Tanzania faces a must-win situation against already eliminated Ethiopia. To reach the semifinals, they not only need a victory but a win by a margin of 2 or more goals, while also hoping for a Ugandan defeat.
Uganda’s head coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes is aware of Ghana’s threat and ready to do the needful tonight.
“We know what we need in the game against Ghana and we are aware of how strong they are. Our first aim in the game, is to go for three points so that we top the group.” started Botes
“As the technical team, we have prepared the girls to overcome Ghana and that’s our focus after we will shift the focus on the semifinal spot. We are here to win every game.” concluded committed Botes.
If Uganda tops the group, they will play against Nigeria or Senegal but if they finish second, they will face Morocco in the semifinals.
It’s important to note that only the top two teams from each group progress to the semifinals, while the last two are automatically eliminated.
