The Uganda senior women national team, the Crested Cranes, will host Rwanda’s She Amavubi today, Wednesday, July 12, 2023, in the first leg of the 2024 Women’s Olympic qualifiers.
The game will be played at 4pm Rwandan time and 5pm Ugandan time at Kigali Pele Stadium in Uganda.
Due to lack of CAF-approved stadia in the country, Uganda will play both legs against the She Amavubi in Rwanda.
Uganda defeated Tanzania 3-1 in a practice match last Friday before departing to Rwanda, and now they start their 2024 Olympics dream in a crucial game against rivals Rwanda.
The last time the two teams faced, Fazila Ikwaput scored a goal in each half as Uganda edged Rwanda 2-0 in the CECAFA Senior Women Challenge Cup 2022.
The Crested Cranes camp was boosted by the arrival of FC Minsk (Belarus) midfielder Joan Nabirye, and she is expected to start the game.
The second leg between Crested Cranes and Rwanda will be played on Sunday, July 16, 2023, in Huye, Rwanda.
The winner on aggregate will advance to the next qualifying round and will face Cameroon.
