Dates: 31st May – 1st June

This weekend, Uganda takes centre stage in African sports by hosting its first-ever international invitational rugby sevens tournament, the Kampala International 7s at Kings Park Arena on 31st May and 1st June.

The event brings together elite rugby teams from across the continent and beyond, celebrating not only athletic excellence but a groundbreaking commitment to environmental sustainability.

The tournament marks a major milestone for Ugandan sport, positioning Kampala as a premier destination for high-level rugby while embracing a greater purpose: tackling climate change through sport.

At the heart of the event is the “Greening the Game” campaign, the official Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the Kampala International 7s.

Operating under the powerful slogan “One Try, One Tree,” the initiative pledges to plant 7 million trees over 7 years. Every try scored during the tournament will result in a tree being planted, turning points on the pitch into real-world progress.

The campaign aligns with World Rugby’s Strategic Plan 2030 and Uganda’s national climate goals.

The weekend kicks off with a symbolic tree planting ceremony by team captains and a high-level stakeholder forum, uniting sport, policy and community in a shared vision for a greener future.

Pool Groupings

  • Group A: Black Pirates, Rams, Warriors, Shogun
  • Group B: Heathens, Kobs, Emerging Cranes, SA All Stars
  • Group C: Buffaloes, Mongers, Strathmore Leos, Nondescripts

With top clubs vying for glory, each try will represent more than just a score but will be a step toward reforestation, climate resilience and a legacy far beyond the final whistle.
