Uganda reached the finals of these championships with no loss but narrowly fell short in the final, losing 3-2.

Uganda defeated Nigeria 4-1 in their opening game, went on to get her second win against Egypt 4-1, and defeated Algeria 3-0 before South Africa stopped the fairytale.

The battle for the gold medal started with Gladys Mbabazi’s (18-21, 17-21) win against Deidre Laurens, Husina Kobugabe went on to get a second when she defeated South Africa’s Diane Olivier (4-21 10-21).

With Uganda leading 2-0, the third women’s singles was a do-or-die for both teams but Uganda’s Shamika Fadilah lost (21-11 21-14) against Johanita Scholtz.

The result started South Africa’s comeback as they won all the women’s doubles to claim the top accolade.

In the women’s doubles, South Africa’s Amy Ackerman and Deidre Laurens defeated Gladys Mbabazi and Husina Kobugabe (21-14 21-15).

The last game had Fadilah Shamika Mohamed Rafi and Tracy Naluwooza taking on Megan De Bee and Johanita Scholtz which South Africa’s pair won (21-13 21-18).

Uganda maintained its 2022 performance where they won Silver in the women’s team events of the same championships hosted in Kampala, Uganda.

On a low note, the Uganda men’s team lost all its games. The two teams will embark on a new challenge of individual events starting this afternoon.

These championships are meant to help players to collect Olympic Games points and the Pearl of Africa female side is on a good trajectory.

From Egypt, players will take part in other events namely; Uganda International, Germany Open, All Africa Games, Orleans Master, and Swiss Open among others in search of more points.
