Uganda has been invited to compete in the inaugural UEFA U16 Women’s friendship Tournament which will take place from April 9th to 19th, 2024, at the Turkish Football Federation training center in Riva, Istanbul.
This invitational tournament is a brand new initiative launched by UEFA, Europe’s football governing body. The first edition will see eight women’s national U16 teams battle it out for the title.
Alongside Uganda, the participating teams include Turkey (host), Botswana, USA, Vietnam, China, Paraguay, and Wales.
The Uganda U16 Women’s National Team has been placed in Group B for the tournament. They will face off against China, Wales, and Paraguay in the group stage.
The Ugandan squad of 21 players, led by head coach Charles Ayiekoh Lukula and assistant coach William Moses Nkata, began their residential training camp on Thursday at the Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisasi. The team is scheduled to depart for Turkey next Tuesday.
