Ugandan Boxer Wasswa Ssali Advances to Africa Boxing Championship Final

Ugandan boxer Wasswa Ssali has advanced to the final of the lightweight category at the Africa Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championship in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Ssali defeated DRC boxer Idris Kitangila in the semi-finals, and is now guaranteed at least a silver medal.

Ssali has had a dominant tournament so far, winning all three of his fights. He is the most impressive boxer in the Uganda Bombers camp, and is a strong contender for the gold medal.

Meanwhile, Grace Nankinga lost her semi-final fight against DRC boxer Grace Thembo, to settle for bronze.

The same was the case with Ronald Okello and Ukasha Matovu, who both lost their semi-final bouts to Tshama David and Boniface Zengala, respectively.

Uganda’s other semi-finalists, who are also already assured of medals, include heavyweight boxer Solomon Geko, Emily Nakalema and Erinah Namutebi of the welterweight and light welterweight, respectively.

All of these boxers are guaranteed at least a bronze medal.

The finals of the Africa Boxing Championship will be held on August 5th.

Ssali will be looking to win gold and bring home the first major boxing title for Uganda in many years.
