With the Uganda International Series set to climax on Sunday, October 5, after four days of action, two Ugandan duos are on bronze medals while the other pair is vying for gold medals.
In the Women’s doubles final set to take place at Lugogo Indoor Arena, Tracy Naluwooza and Fadhilah Shimika Rafi will go against the Swiss pair of Jenjira Stadelmann and Leila Zarrouk for the gold medal.
In the Semifinal, Naluwooza and Fadhilah passed (MAS) Lim Xuan and Joanne by 2-1 sets after recording (21-12) (17-21) (21-19).
Their opponents in the final stopped another Ugandan pair, Meble Namakoye and Rajab Shamsa Mbira, by two straight sets, winning (21-12) (21-10), forcing the Ugandans to settle for a bronze.
The Swiss are looking for a second gold in back to back tournaments with the first having been scooped at the recently concluded Kampala International Future Series played at the same venue, Lugogo Indoor Arena in Kampala.
The duo is targeting becoming the second to win a gold medal for Uganda at the event, following Brian Kasirye and Muzafaru Lubega in 2023.
Having already bettered the performance possessed at at the Kampala International Future Series, Uganda is assured of six medals.
On the medal list, Muzafaru Lubega, who paired with Hussina Kobugabe, settled with a bronze after retiring from their semifinal game against Zi Xiang Chong and Joanne Ng of Malaysia due to Kobugabe’s injury.
