Uganda’s women’s basketball team, the Gazelles, made history at the 2023 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket in Kigali, Rwanda, by finishing seventh, their highest ever finish on the continent.

Now, the Gazelles are setting their sights even higher for the next continental showdown in 2025.

The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) has launched a project called “Gazelles Afrobasket 2025” with the goal of ensuring that the team makes the semi-finals of the next edition of the tournament.

FUBA President Nasser Sserunjogi believes that the Gazelles have the potential to achieve even greater things with better planning and preparations.

“The team competed superbly against some of the best sides in Africa, including a victory against 13-time champions Senegal,” Sserunjogi said.

“With better funding, planning and preparations, I’m confident that the Gazelles can make even bigger leaps both on the continent and beyond.”
