Team Uganda’s brilliant trio Parvin Nangonzi, Jemimah Nakawala, and Judith Mirembe are making history at the 2025 ITTF Africa Senior Championships in Tunisia with exceptional performances that have earned Uganda a place at the 2026 World Table Tennis Team Championships in London.
Fresh from winning Uganda’s first women’s doubles bronze in decades, Jemimah and Parvin continued their fine form in the team event, leading Uganda to its best-ever showing on the continental stage. Backed by newcomer Judith Mirembe, who remains unbeaten in the team competition, the girls dominated DR Congo and South Africa in style.
Uganda swept DR Congo 3–0, with Nangonzi edging Litobaka Ammadine 3–2, Nakawala cruising past Julie Kayembe 3–0 and Mirembe sealing victory over Kindandi Nzangani.
Later, they stunned a strong South African side 3–1 to book a quarterfinal spot and with it, automatic qualification for the World Championships.
“This is a huge moment for Uganda,” said Head Coach Paul Mutambuze, a former Olympian.
“Beating South Africa 3–1 and qualifying for the World Championships shows how far these girls have come. With continued focus, they can even win a medal.”
Uganda Table Tennis Association President Cyrus Mark Muwanga applauded the team’s progress; “The ladies have shown tremendous growth. The bronze medal and now a top-eight finish in Africa prove Uganda is rising fast in international table tennis.”
Meanwhile, the men’s team Jonathan Ssenyonga, David Odoi, and Joshua Magaya, will look to bounce back after a tough loss to Madagascar. They face DR Congo and hosts Tunisia next, hoping to join their female counterparts among Africa’s top eight.
