Uganda’s women’s table tennis team is on a historic run at the ITTF-Africa Senior Championships in Rades, Tunisia, after booking their place at next year’s World Team Table Tennis Championships in London.
The trio of Judith Mirembe, Jemimah Nakawala, and Parvin Judith Nangonzi powered Uganda to a commanding 3–1 victory over Cameroon to top their group.
Earlier wins against DR Congo and South Africa had already guaranteed them a quarterfinal spot and that all-important London 2026 ticket.
With qualification sealed, the focus now shifts to tonight’s quarterfinal clash against hosts Tunisia at 6:00 p.m. (EAT). Uganda will be chasing a semifinal berth and possibly a podium finish against the fancied North Africans.
Elsewhere, Egypt face South Africa, Madagascar take on Algeria, and Ghana meet Nigeria in an all-West African tie.
All eight quarterfinalists have already confirmed their slots for London. On the men’s side, Jonathan Ssenyonga, David Odoi, and Joshua Magaya fell short of qualification after a 3–0 loss to DR Congo.
They’ll look to finish strong in their final group game against Tunisia at 1:00 p.m. Beyond the team battles, the championships also feature singles and doubles events.
In a major milestone, Nangonzi and Nakawala recently claimed Uganda’s first table tennis bronze in over 20 years in the women’s doubles, a breakthrough that caps a remarkable week for Ugandan table tennis.
