Two Ugandan schools, Friends International Christian Academy (FICA) and Peak Primary School, are competing at the inaugural World Schools Chess Championship in Aktau, Kazakhstan.
In the U-12 category, FICA opened the event with two losses, but they bounced back with a 4-0 victory over Botswana’s Curro Baobab School.
FICA’s Timothy Mulungi Serwadda, Samora Omara, Benjamin Mwesigwa Serwadda, and Sankara Oyang were too good for Curro’s unrated players.
Having sat out the third round, Peak Primary School drew 2-2 with Private Educational Institution from Tajikistan in the fourth round.
Ruth Thelma and Kayla Mulindwa won their respective games, while Natalie Nakandi and Elizabeth Saasi lost theirs.
FICA lost the fourth round 0.5-3.5 to School Lyceun from Kazakhstan. Only Sankara managed a draw against his opponent.
The two Ugandan teams will face off on Sunday in the fifth round.
