Ugandan sprinter Tarsis Orogot missed out on a place in the 200m final spot at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Orogot, who is a student of University of Alabama in the US put up a strong 20:26 seconds to finish third in his Heat on Thursday, but his effort was just a little too late to make the top two.

United States’ Noah Lyles took the Heat with an impressive 19:76 seconds while Dominican athlete Alexander Ogando finished second in the Heat.

It should be noted that Orogot was the thirteenth-fastest competitor in the 200m event during the 2022 championships in Oregon.

Following the race, Orogot expressed his satisfaction stressing how proud he was as well as his family.

“If my parents are proud, I’m good,” the youngster tweeted in the aftermath.

Orogot’s performance in Budapest is a promising sign for the future of Ugandan sprinting. He is still young and has plenty of room to improve.

With continued hard work, he could be a contender for a medal at the next World Championships.
