Uganda’s young table tennis players continued their impressive run at the 2025 ITTF African Youth Championships, putting on strong performances in the Under-15 singles at the Sir Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Hall in Lagos.
- Sebatindira, Nsereko shine; Mutesasira falls short
Joseph Sebatindira led the boys with a clean sweep in Group 1. He beat Cameroon’s Ndzelen Maxwell 3-0, edged Nigeria’s Joseph Victor 3-2, and wrapped up with a 3-1 win over South Africa’s Scholtz Ruan.
Shariff Nsereko also breezed through Group 8, winning all three matches—two by 3-0 against Togo’s Agbetoglo Tony and Cameroon’s Ndzelen Maxsmith, and one 3-1 over Benin’s Abdourahaman Ganiou.
Ibrahim Mutesasira didn’t make it past Group 5. He lost to Nigeria’s Hussein Adeoye and Tunisia’s Essid Amir but managed a 3-1 win over Zimbabwe’s Makoni Shallom.
- U-15 Girls keep winning
The girls picked up where they left off after winning Uganda’s first-ever team gold.
Patience Anyango dominated Group 4, beating players from South Africa, Egypt, and Namibia without dropping more than a game.
Patra Nasirumbi lost her opener to Algeria’s Morice Tania but recovered with strong wins over Madagascar’s Ranarison Fiderana and Nigeria’s Aruna Mariam.
Jemimah Nakawala cruised through Group 6, confidently handling her matches against Togo, Namibia, and Madagascar.
- Knockouts Next – Mixed doubles first
Uganda has five players through to the Round of 16. Only Nasirumbi plays on Saturday in the Round of 32, facing Tunisia’s Brahimi Nour. The rest got byes.
But first, the focus shifts to mixed doubles Thursday evening.

Parvin Judith Nangonzi kicks off her Under-19 singles in Group 4. Her opponents are South Africa’s Heralal Bhavna, Nigeria’s Ayoola Kabirat, and Benin’s Mayaki Emmanuela.
Behind the scenes, coaches Alvin Katumba and Tendo Balyewunya continue to guide the team with solid preparation and support, helping Uganda’s young talent rise on the African table tennis stage.
