Uganda’s final medal hopes at the 2025 ITTF African Youth Championships rest with three young players: Jemimah Nakawala, Judith Parvin Nangonzi, and Sharif Nsereko.
Nakawala and Nangonzi are just two wins away from the under-19 girls’ doubles title. They face Egypt’s Mariam Younes and Habiba Elbasoumy in the semifinals at noon (EAT). If they win, the final follows at 4:55pm.
In the under-15 boys’ singles, Nsereko has impressed all week. He takes on Algeria’s Zouitene in the semifinal at 12:30pm.
A win would see him back at the table at 5:35pm for the final, where he could face Egypt’s Sameh Asser or Nigeria’s Mustapha Musa.
Before that, Nsereko also pairs with Joseph Sebatindira in the under-15 boys’ doubles semifinals at 11:30am against Egypt’s Sameh Asser and Abdelhalim Mohammed. That final is set for 4:30pm.
It’s already been a historic week for Uganda, with three gold medals won during the Africa Hopes Week and Challenge, highlighted by a first-ever title for the under-15 girls’ team.
Next up is the Africa Cup starting Monday. Coaches Alvin Katumba and Tendo Balyewunya have named a strong lineup featuring Nakawala, Nangonzi, Nsereko, Sebatindira, and Patience Anyango.
