Ugandan volleyball powerhouse Sport-S progressed to the semifinals of the ongoing Zone V Volleyball Club Championship inside the BK Arena Kigali, Rwanda yesterday evening in style.
The Blacks overpowered Police Volleyball Club 3-2 in a game that needed a decider to separate the two sides. The Rwandese side started with fire, winning both the opening sets; 25-22 and 25-19.
With the KCCA Volleyball Club women’s side in the stands cheering them on, Sport-S forced a fourth set with a 25-17 win and fed on the same energy to take the game into a decisive set thanks to a 25-20 fourth set triumph.
With the momentum in their favour, Sport-S sealed the victory with a 16-14 points victory to advance to the last four unbeaten.
The side which had no game today awaits their next opponent as they aim to reach the final.
On a low note, KCCA has had a rough outing, failing to register a single win in the tournament despite putting in a solid shift from match day one.
The side that reached late in Kigali has road fatigue to blame as their endurance levels have been down hence losing all their four games.
Well, according to their coach Shilla Allison Omuriwe Buyungo, this is a learning curve, and at the same time a platform for the girls to get used to these big stages ahead of next year’s continental games.
“I told the girls to enjoy themselves and play good volleyball. It’s the experience that counts most in such tournaments to a young team, and I am sure that they are now better players.”
