Eight badminton players and two coaches landed safely in Cairo, Egypt for the All Africa Senior Championships Men (Thomas Cup) and Women (Uber Cup).

The ten who were flagged off on Friday the 9th of February at Lugogo Sports Complex used Egyptair and landed in Egypt around 10 in the morning on Saturday.

With the weather changes, the team is fighting the coldness that many are not used to ahead of the games that will start next week.

William Kabindi, the Uganda badminton national team head coach told Nnalubaale Sports that all the eight players are in good shape despite being affected by weather.

“We had our first training yesterday and we will have our last training today as we wait for the draws to know who our opponents are.”

The Thomas and Uber cups will contribute 400 points if players perform well, and players are focusing on it as they are in search of the points for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France this year.

Ugandan players like Fadilah Shamika (in Women’s singles), Husina Kobugabe, and Gladys Mbabazi (in women’s doubles) still have a chance to make it to Paris.

Before the final ranking, players will have to take part in events like the Uganda International Germany Open, All Africa Games, Orleans Master, and Swiss Open among other events.

Muzafaru Lubega, Amos Muyanja, Expendito Emmundu, Agustus Owiny, Gladys Mbabazi, Tracy Naluwooza, Husina Kobugabe, and Fadilah Shamika Mohammed are the players in Egypt.
