National Council of Sports (NCS) chairperson, Ambrose Tashobya, has urged the Ugandan contingent to the Gyminasiade Games to give their all and represent the country with pride.
Speaking at the team’s flag-off ceremony in Kampala on October 21, 2024, Tashobya emphasized that while medals are important, the true measure of success lies in effort and dedication.
“Don’t just aim for medals; give your best 100%. Setting a new personal record is also a victory,” Tashobya advised the athletes. He further called on them to maintain discipline and represent Uganda positively during their time in Bahrain.
The 92-member Ugandan contingent, comprising 52 athletes (all under 18) from various schools including Kibuli SS, Mbogo Schools, Rubaga Girls, and Seroma Christian will compete in table tennis, badminton, lawn tennis, and athletics.
The team is led by Haj Twahir Kitezaala, the first vice president of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA).
As the team prepares to depart for Bahrain on October 22, the commissioner of physical education, Reverend Conon Duncan Mugumya, reminded the athletes of Uganda’s rich sporting heritage. He urged them to stay focused and avoid negative influences.
The Gyminasiade games will take place from October 25 to 30, 2024. With a strong team and a determined spirit, Uganda hopes to make a significant impact at the international competition.
