Uganda’s Pool Cranes to Compete in Hawley Cup in South Africa

Uganda National Pool team, the Pool Cranes are on their way to South Africa to take part in the Hawley Cup Championship.

The Hawley Cup, a competition that brings together elite pool playing nations is being hosted in Africa for the first time.

This blackball tournament cued off on Monday, 16th October at the Grand Montecasino, but Uganda will join the competition in the latter rounds.

Due to delayed acquisition of visas, the Pool Cranes were forced to miss the opening two rounds, and are likely to miss round three and four that will be played today.

Uganda has sent in a team of sixteen players including eight men and as many ladies. The side will be captained by Habib Ssebuguzi.

The annual event will see competition from male and female participants, both in the individual and team events.

Speaking before their departure, Ssebuguzi promised a great show from team Uganda in spite of the travel delays.

“Despite the delayed travel, our spirits are not broken. Our minds are focussed on the mission. Nothing short of gold will do.” Ssebuguzi echoed.

The team is expected to land at the OR Tambo International Airport in Jonannesburg on Tuesday 17th October 2023.
