Coach Hamuza Lutalo is confident his players will live up to task when they host Djibouti in the CECAFA U-15 Championship on Saturday at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

“We are ready for competition. We have to use the home advantage to defend the competition. The players’ morale is high and they are set to make sure we perform well. The good thing is we don’t have an injured player,” noted Lutalo.

Uganda is in group A with Ethiopia, Djibouti and South Sudan while Group B comprises Tanzania, Somalia, Zanzibar and Rwanda in the competition will run from Saturday till November 16th.

Just like Lutalo, forward Frank Ssekanjako believes the technical team has prepared them well and they are ready to compete.

“We want to make our country proud. As players we are going to do our best to compete. We have to live up to our potential,” reasoned Ssekanjako.

In the early kickoff encounter, Ethiopia will battle Sudan in the opening match of the Championship. Group B matches will start on Sunday with Tanzania battling Somalia while Zanzibar will meet Rwanda in the second match on the same day.

CECAFA Executive Director, Auka Gecheo believes the competition will be a success.

“We expect to have a very competitive competition and we are using the competition to prepare our youngsters ahead of the AFCON U-17 Zonal qualifiers next year,” said Gecheo.

He also noted that Kenya notified CECAFA that they will not be able to send a team for the Championship just like Sudan, Burundi and Eritrea who also are unable to enter teams.
