The 2023 National Hockey League (both Men and Women) is yet to be concluded, but Uganda Hockey Association have already released their calendar for 2024.

The year will be kick-started by a new competition, the Uganda Hockey Juniors Cup, which will see it’s inaugural edition played between 27th and 28th January and be contested for by the U19s.

The Memorial Shield will then follow on 3rd March in Lugogo where both Wananchi sides will be looking to defend their titles.

March will also witness the Pearl of Africa Women’s Cup take center stage. March is a month dedicated to women. What better way to celebrate the month than this tournament?

Kampala Hockey Club Swans are the defending champions here. They will get their title defence going between 8th and 10th March.

The National Hockey League will then commence on 16th March. As aforementioned, the 2023 season has not yet ended, but Kampala Swans are the table leaders and champions in wait in the Women’s division while Weatherhead lead the table standings in the Men’s.

Between 29th and 31st March, the Easter Cup will be played. Kampala Swans are the defending champions here too while United States International University from Nairobi in the Men’s category won it last year.

The University Hockey Challenge will commence on April 17. Kyambogo currently have the bragging rights here. They beat Makerere University twice last year to win the trophy.

The Minors Cup, an U13 competition, will then get on in May starting 16th. This competition is another new one in the UHA calendar.

But the Uganda Cup will get May started. This one will commence on May 1, and like the league, the 2023 season champion (Men and Women) is not yet known.

In October, the Independence Cup will be contested. The two-day event will run between 5-6 October. Like the Memorial Shield, the Wananchi teams won this competition last year.

Nine competitions on the card, but the league will close off the calendar.
