Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has officially been let in as the 34th member of the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC), a landmark achievement that promises to transform the sport in the country.

The announcement was made during the UOC’s annual general meeting at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, marking a major step toward Ugandan cricket’s global recognition.

The historic event was presided over by elections officer Brian Kajubi with National Council of Sports Assistant General Secretary Sarah Chelangat in attendance.

UCA’s inclusion in the Olympic family is expected to unlock new opportunities including increased funding, improved training facilities and a potential pathway to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Speaking on the milestone, Denis Musali, UCA Honorary Secretary expressed both excitement and relief highlighting the struggles that cricket has faced in Uganda due to limited financial resources, lack of exposure and restricted development programs.

“We are thrilled to join the Olympic family because we have been missing out on a number of opportunities, including participating in the Olympic Games. This is a pivotal moment for Ugandan cricket,” Musali stated.

For years, the absence of official recognition had stalled cricket’s growth in Uganda, limiting access to key international development programs.

Now, with UOC backing, the sport is set to receive critical financial support helping to build state-of-the-art training facilities, recruit top-tier coaches and establish comprehensive grassroots programs.

Musali emphasized the significance of this membership noting that it not only boosts development at home but also enhances Uganda’s chances of competing against elite teams on the global stage.

“This membership means better training facilities, increased funding, and a clearer pathway to Olympic participation come 2028,” he added.

With cricket set to feature in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, Uganda’s inclusion in the UOC presents a golden opportunity to elevate the sport’s status within the country.

This recognition not only benefits the players but also inspires young talent creating a stronger foundation for the future of Ugandan cricket.
