Uganda Premier League | Friday – MatchDay 21
- KCCA 5-0 Bright Stars
- Wakiso Giants 0-1 UPDF
- Lugazi 0-1 Maroons
On a cold Friday evening at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, KCCA FC put on a dazzling performance, crushing Bright Stars 5-0 in a dominant Uganda Premier League display.
Midfield maestro Bright Anukani was the star of the show, scoring twice in the first half to set the tone for an emphatic victory.
KCCA FC wasted no time in asserting their dominance. Within the first 10 minutes, Arafat Usama thought he had given the hosts the lead, only for his goal to be disallowed.
However, the setback did little to slow KCCAโs momentum. Seven minutes later, Bright Anukani broke the deadlock, calmly slotting home after being set up by Saidi Shafik Nana.
As KCCA continued to press, Saidi Mayanja had a golden opportunity to double the lead but somehow missed an open net after dribbling past Bright Stars goalkeeper Simon Were.
His blushes were soon spared when Arafat Usama finally got his goal, heading in a precise cross from Shafik Nana to make it 2-0.
With possession firmly in their grasp, KCCAโs attacking fluency was on full display. Usama, now in the role of provider, combined beautifully with youngster Yian Gatbel to set up Mayanja, who made no mistake this time, finishing clinically for KCCAโs third goal.
Bright Stars struggled to find a response, and six minutes before halftime, Anukani struck again. This time, his brilliance came from a set-piece, curling a stunning free kick past a helpless Were to send KCCA into the break with a commanding 4-0 lead.
Bright Stars showed brief signs of life early in the second half, with their captain, Nelson Ssenkatuka coming close to pulling one back. However, KCCAโs goalkeeper Mugoloofa was alert to the danger, denying him with a sharp save.
The visitors’ misery was compounded in the dying moments of the match when Brazilian forward Joรฃo Gabriel put the finishing touch on KCCAโs masterclass.
A well-placed cross from Etienne Katenga found him unmarked in the box, and he made no mistake, tapping in to complete the 5-0 rout.
The victory, KCCAโs ninth of the season, lifts them to fourth place in the league table with 34 points from 21 matches, keeping them firmly in the race for a top finish.
Meanwhile, Bright Stars’ struggles continue, as they remain winless since December. Their 12 points from 21 matches leave them in 15th place, just one spot above the bottom of the table.
KCCA FC will now shift their focus to a crucial away fixture against Kitara FC at Royals Park in Hoima, while Bright Stars will host Police FC in a desperate attempt to revive their hopes of survival.
Earlier in the day, visiting teams reigned supreme in the league. UPDF FC edged Wakiso Giants 1-0 in Wakiso, thanks to a solitary goal from Samuel Ssekamatte, while Maroons FC also secured a narrow 1-0 win over Lugazi in Najjembe, courtesy of an Abel Eterude strike.
