- Calvary FC 0-1 Maroons
Ivan Asaba was once again on target as Maroons FC edged Calvary FC 1–0 at Midigo Primary School Playground in Yumbe on Matchday 20 of the Uganda Premier League.
Asaba’s first-half goal proved enough to give the Luzira side all three points in a tightly contested match.
Calvary started brightly and nearly took the lead in the fifth minute when Daniel Opio fired a powerful shot, but Maroons goalkeeper Simon Tamale made an excellent save.
The hosts continued to threaten early on, while Maroons looked dangerous on the counter. Ivan later tried his luck from distance but his effort went over the bar, while Nkuubi also missed the target.
The breakthrough came in the 28th minute when Asaba finished calmly to give Maroons the lead. It was the striker’s second goal in as many matches.
Calvary pushed for an equaliser and created chances, but Tamale stood firm with several important saves. Junior Andama came close from a free kick in a promising position, but his effort sailed over the bar before he was later booked.
Maroons carried their narrow lead into the break.
Calvary made two changes at the start of the second half, bringing on Simon Odeke and Jeremy Matata in search of a response. The hosts continued to press, but Maroons remained organised at the back.
Calvary goalkeeper Shukuru also made a crucial save in the 56th minute to deny Maroons a second goal.
Maroons later withdrew Asaba for Mujahid Ogama as they focused on protecting their lead in the closing stages.
Calvary made further substitutions and pushed forward late on, but Maroons held on through four minutes of added time to secure victory.
The win lifts Maroons to ninth place with 22 points, moving above Express FC, while Calvary remain bottom of the table with five points and still without a win.
Next, Maroons host UPDF FC in Luzira, while Calvary travel to face leaders Vipers in Kitende.
