- Lugazi FC 1-0 UPDF FC
Richard Ayiko’s first-half header earned Lugazi FC a hard fought 1-0 win over UPDF FC on Wednesday evening at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe.
The decisive moment came in the 15th minute. Abdul Kalanzi floated in a well taken free kick and Ayiko rose above his markers to power home, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. It was a simple but clinical finish that proved enough.
Lugazi stayed organised for the rest of the first half, limiting UPDF to few clear chances. The visitors tried to respond, but the hosts defended firmly and went into the break with their lead intact.
UPDF made changes after halftime, introducing Rashid Faridi for Abbas Lutty Nsubuga, but the match grew scrappy.
Denis Sekitoleko, Ayiko and Juma Ssajabi were all booked as the contest turned physical.
Both teams made further substitutions in search of control and a breakthrough. Lugazi brought on Moses Buga, while UPDF introduced Asaph Segujja and Swaib Kasujja Kalule. Despite late pressure from the visitors, Lugazi’s defence held steady to see out the win.
The result lifts Lugazi to 10th place on 18 points, their fourth victory of the season. UPDF’s struggles continue, stretching their winless run to eight matches.
Their last league victory came on December 5, 2025, a 2-0 win over Lugazi in Bombo. They remain 15th on 12 points in the relegation zone.
Ayiko was named Man of the Match for his match-winning header.
Next, UPDF travel to face NEC on March 3, while Lugazi visit St Mary’s Kitende on March 4. Elsewhere, Calvary FC and Express FC played out a goalless draw at Midigo P/S.
