It will be renewed rivalry as 13-time Uganda Premier League champions KCCA FC play host to nemesis, Express FC in the Kampala derby on today at the Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
It will not only be a battle for bragging rights over who owns Uganda’s Capital City, but one that will also have both sides try to ascend further on the table.
“We know how important this game is to everybody including our opponents,” KCCA head coach Morley Byekwaso told the media in his pre-match press conference.
“It’s a Kampala Derby and it comes with a lot of excitement, pressure, and expectations. It’s always tough to play against Express but we want to win and return to the summit,” he added.
KCCA will hit top-spot with 24 points should they manage victory at home, and will overtake current leaders Vipers SC.
Meanwhile, Express head coach James Odoch made it clear the team cannot afford to lose four games on the bounce, having lost the last three.
“I know how good a team KCCA is with brilliant players. The likes of Allan Okello and Moses Waiswa and equally a fantastic coach Byekwaso but we shall be looking for maximum points.”
“I must admit that we are not in a good situation having lost our last consecutive three games. It is indeed a poor run for such a big club but we have tried so much to rectify the mistakes.”
The past two seasons have witnessed cagey encounters between the two, with all four games ending in stalemates.
