2025/26 Uganda Premier League | Tuesday January 6 | MD 12

  • Buhimba United Saints FC 1-0 Maroons FC
  • Police FC 2-0 KCCA FC

After eight matches without a win, the Uganda Premier League debutants rediscovered their spark at the Royal Park in Butema, Hoima, edging Maroons FC 1–0 to bring a frustrating run to an end and steady their maiden top flight campaign.

Derick Byabachwezi was the hero, his decisive strike restoring belief and momentum for a side that had badly needed a turning point.

The victory marked Buhimba’s first win since their electric start to life in the Premier League, where they opened the season with three straight victories before losing their way.

Now under the guidance of Robert Mukasa, three games into his tenure and still unbeaten, the Saints are once again looking upward, safely tucked into the top half of the table after shooting to 13 points in 12 games.

While Buhimba celebrated renewal in Hoima, drama unfolded in Kampala where Police FC delivered the shock of the restart.

Returning from a short league break prompted by Uganda Cranes’ AFCON campaign, table leaders KCCA FC were brought crashing back to earth, falling 2–0 to a disciplined and ruthless Police side at the Kira Road Police Ground.

The damage was done in the second half. Brian James Obedi opened the scoring in the 51st minute before Bedia Ikamba doubled the advantage 11 minutes later, both goals crafted by the ever-influential Denis Kalanzi, whose vision and composure unlocked the KCCA defence twice.

KCCA’s technical bench responded with urgency, making triple changes as Shafik Nana Kwikiriza, Ashraf Mugume and Ivan Ahimbisibwe were introduced. But the substitutions failed to shift the tide.

Ikamba’s strike only deepened the visitors’ woes, and Police calmly managed the contest, reinforcing their control late on as Jemba Ramsey replaced Lawrence Tezikya.

A final roll of the dice came in the 86th minute when Alpha Ssali and Alex Yiga were brought on for Joel Sserunjogi and Derrick Nsibambi, but it proved more about gaining minutes than salvaging a result.

Despite the defeat, KCCA remain top of the table after 12 matches at least temporarily.

Their position could come under immediate threat from Vipers SC, who host relegation battlers Mbarara City at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Vipers, the league’s only unbeaten side, sit two points behind KCCA with two games in hand.

Police FC, meanwhile, climbed to second place with 24 points from 12 games, their authority on the day underlining their growing credentials.
